1) What is regulation and why do media industries need to be regulated?

Mass media regulations or simply media regulations are a form of media policy with rules enforced by the jurisdiction of law. Guidelines for mass media use differ across the world.

2) What is OFCOM responsible for?

Ofcom is the regulator and competition authority for the UK communications industries. It regulates the TV and radio sectors, fixed line telecoms, mobiles, postal services, plus the airwaves over which wireless devices operate. Ofcom works with the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.

3) Look at the section on the OFCOM broadcasting code. Which do you think are the three most important sections of the broadcasting code and why?

4) Do you agree with OFCOM that Channel 4 was wrong to broadcast 'Wolverine' at 6.55pm on a Sunday evening? Why?

The show contains violent images.As well as this at this time of day children would be having dinner and are most likely not going to sleep yet.This means it is a hazard for children to bee seeing these things at these times.This overall causes backlash from parents because children can see this show.

6) Why was the Press Complaints Commission criticised?'

There are no consumer rights people on the PCC and that is a major failing

7) What was the Leveson enquiry and why was it set up?

The Leveson Inquiry was a judicial public inquiry into the culture, practices, and ethics of the British press following the News International phone hacking scandal, chaired by Lord Justice Leveson, who was appointed in July 2011. 

8) What was the PCC replaced with in 2014?

PCC subsequently shut down on 8 September 2014, and on the same day, it was replaced by a newly formed group, the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO), chaired by Sir Alan Moses and previous members of the press of PCC.

9) What is your opinion on press regulation? Is a free press an important part of living in a democracy or should newspapers face statutory regulation like TV and radio?

I believe that in the world free press is needed so we ca understand everybodys ideas in the world.However most media newspapers need to be impartial because it means that they are able to meet regulations needed and keep everybody safe.

10) Why is the internet so difficult to regulate?

-easy to bypass regulations

-increase use of VPN means people can see anything and everything
